Timothy Ridout with Manchester Camerata
Join Manchester Camerata for a live classical concert exploring a captivating programme of orchestral masterpieces. Internationally acclaimed violist Timothy Ridout, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and Kronberg Academy, brings his award-winning artistry to Manchester for an evening of imagination, rich orchestral colour and deeply moving music.
We begin with Mozart's sparkling Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, one of the most recognisable openings in classical music. Brimming with wit, energy and irresistible momentum, it sweeps audiences into a whirlwind of dazzling strings and playful orchestral colour, showcasing Mozart's gift for drama and love of theatrical music.
Next, we feature Pēteris Vasks’ expressive Viola Concerto. This work is full of emotional contrast and spiritual depth. Written for Maxim Rysanov, it places the viola at its centre as a searching, solitary voice that invites you to reflect.
The programme closes with Brahms’ Serenade No. 2 in A major. This early work reveals a composer shaping his orchestral voice. Written without violins, it offers a naturally warm, mellow sound, allowing violas, cellos, and woodwind to take the spotlight. It moves between still, almost frozen moments, folk-inspired rhythms, and bright passages. This piece explores hope and renewal, holding darkness and light side by side.
Don't miss the rare opportunity to hear these compelling works live in Manchester.
