Be Part of Something Bigger: Volunteer for Here We Are – A GM-Wide Arts Conversation
Manchester Camerata is on a mission – to hear from people and communities across all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester as part of Here We Are, a week of music performances reaching as many people in Greater Manchester as possible. We’re undertaking a region-wide community consultation and arts research project, and we need you to help make it happen.
Last year over 4,000 people attended an event with over 400 survey participants letting us know what music meant to them. This data is invaluable and helps shape the future of our artform.
We’re looking for passionate, people-focused volunteers to join us at our Here We Are events, where you’ll play a vital role in gathering public input that will shape the future of music, wellbeing, and community engagement across Greater Manchester.
Your Role as a Volunteer
As a volunteer, you’ll be supporting the public to share their views by:
- Guiding people through a short, easy-to-use digital survey (via iPads or their own devices)
- Capturing personal stories and insights through relaxed, informal video interviews (vox pops)
- Helping those less confident with technology take part through simple, creative postcard responses
You don’t need to be a research expert – just friendly, curious, and passionate about giving people a voice. Full guidance and support will be provided by Manchester Camerata staff.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome volunteers from all walks of life – including students, community members, partner organisations, our Music Champions, and anyone excited about arts and community. Whether you’re an experienced facilitator or just keen to get involved, there’s a space for you.
Why Volunteer?
- Do something meaningful – help shape how music evolves across Greater Manchester
- Support the arts sector – your involvement help gather the evidence and ideas to create new funding bids, programmes, and projects
- Meet great people – join a network of artists, researchers, and fellow changemakers
- Gain experience – especially valuable for students or early-career professionals in arts, research, or community work
- Help voices be heard – help make sure everyone in GM’s voice is part of this conversation
How Your Contribution Matters
Your support enables us to:
