Sheffield International Concert Season

Sun 9 June 2024, 2:30pm

Guided by our leader Caroline Pether, we will perform two iconic works: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. The illustrious author, Sir Michael Morpurgo, has been so inspired by the music of Baroque composer Antonin Vivaldi that he has written poems to compliment this evocative work and in this performance, he will read them between each of the Four Seasons.

In the first half, award-winning television presenter Josie D’Arby will tell the story of Peter and the Wolf, where each of the characters are represented by different orchestral instruments. One of Prokofiev’s most frequently performed works, it has been introducing young people to the orchestra since its composition almost 90 years ago.
