There’s something quite beautiful about the liminal atmosphere of an airport: watching passengers depart, and arrivals reunite with loved ones as thousands of journeys unfold.

Created as music to transform the experience of travel, Ambient 1: Music for Airports is a studio album by Brian Eno. Eno’s visionary work changed the course of contemporary music, giving birth to an entirely new way of listening. 

It was released in February 1979, and is often cited as ‘the greatest ambient album of all time’ (Pitchfork). 

Hear this genre-defining masterwork as it was intended, live from the newly refurbished T2 departures concourse of Manchester Airport.

For anyone drawn to ambient music, cinematic soundscapes, nostalgia, melancholy and the quiet beauty of in-between places, this is a once-in-a-lifetime cultural event unlike any other.
