Manchester Camerata Brings a Free Family Performance to Manchester Museum with Julia Donaldson’s Sharing a Shell

This free performance is part of our Here We Are festival, bringing live music to all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and reinforcing our commitment to making world-class music accessible to all.

Join us for a magical family-friendly performance featuring Julia Donaldson’s much-loved story Sharing a Shell, presented by our Principal Horn, Naomi Atherton. For this special show, our wind quintet will bring the story to life, combining live performance, storytelling and imagination to create an engaging experience for audiences of all ages.

Set against the fascinating backdrop of Manchester Museum’s ‘Living Worlds’ gallery, surrounded by incredible animal specimens, fossils and objects from the natural world, this performance is the perfect setting to immerse yourself in the story’s seaside adventure.

Sharing a Shell offers a welcoming introduction to the world of classical music in a relaxed and engaging setting.

Family activities will run throughout the afternoon too. You’ll have the chance to take a closer look at some of the fascinating shells from the Museum’s natural history collections through handling activities running 12-4pm in Living Worlds.

You’ll also be able to make rock pool puppets up on The Top Floor 12-4pm. This craft activity suitable for children aged 5 and over will allow you to create colourful sea creature stick puppets inspired by Sharing a Shell.
