Manchester Camerata teams up with OperaUpClose

OperaUpClose is an ambitious Olivier Award-winning opera company, ‘leading an artistic revolution‘ (Sunday Times) in opera, and we’re thrilled to be working with them! Known for their intimate, innovative and accessible performances, OperaUpClose and Manchester Camerata are teaming up to re-imagine Richard Wagner’s famous ‘The Flying Dutchman‘ in a new English language production.

Through a process of extensive Research and Development workshops, beginning in July 2021 at our home (The Monastery, Manchester), this Dutchman will be radically re-imagined for four singers and an 8-piece chamber ensemble by composer Laura Bowler and librettist, novelist and poet Glyn Maxwell for a UK tour in Autumn 2022.

New to Opera? – Don’t worry, OperaUpClose pride themselves on making opera accessible to all, and have even made a beginner’s guide to opera which you can read here.
