It’s beginning to look a lot like christmasssss!
Believe it or not, Christmas is a mere 3 and a bit weeks away which means here at Camerata we are gearing up for our annual Christmas tradition – The Festive Happening with AMC Gospel Choir.
After a years hiatus due to the pandemic, we’re back with our festive family favourite. A joyous celebration, a gospel coming together, and most of all a great party. We caught up with AMC Gospel Choir director Audrey Mattis to find out what she enjoys most about this time of year.
Manchester Camerata: Hi Audrey! It’s festive time once again, what does this time of year mean for you?
Audrey Mattis: It generally means having lots of last-minute requests for AMC Choir to perform at parties and all sorts of events as businesses start to feel festive. This year has been especially “bonkers” with requests over the past few weeks!
MC: I feel this is incredibly relatable! Christmas always seems to be the most hectic time of year. What are you looking forward to most about our Festive Happeing?
AM: The AMC singers and band being all musical together with our Manchester Camerata family and then seeing the faces of the audience as they get into the spirit of the sounds filling the Albert Hall during the performances. I’m not a fan of mince pies but I will out-eat anyone with most of the other specialities that appear on our Jamaican Christmas dinner table.
MC: What present are you hoping Santa will bring you this year?
AM: Something made out of silver and or glittering! Maybe 2 pieces!!
MC: What have you been listening to at the moment?
AM: I love listening to instrumentals and one artist that is on my playlist at the moment is the jazz/ gospel saxophonist Kirk Whalum. He has a couple of most excellent Christmas albums that I listen to around this time to get into the mood of the season.
MC: Any new years resolutions?
AM: To visit with my family-friends more – Continue to eat well – exercise regularly – and fly to a very warm country very soon!
