Here’s an update on what Covid-19 means for Manchester Camerata…
The good news is, we’ve spent lockdown being there for the people who have needed us the most – which has included virtual delivery of our Music in Mind dementia programme, giving immediate relief from isolation for people with dementia.
The bad news is, we have had to cancel all live performances for the foreseeable future, which means the largest part of our income has gone overnight. What is more, it is not financially viable for us to put on live performances whilst social distancing restrictions are in place. As such, most of our musicians are largely at home without work right now, which means their livelihood and mental wellbeing are at risk.
We need your help…
We have launched an appeal to raise £250,000 to secure our recovery – in other words, to offset the cumulative loss of income from cancelled performances – but also to secure our impact during this pandemic. This is our vision behind Untold.
Directed by award-winning drama and documentary Northern filmmaker, Paul Sapin, Untold is made up of a series of films each telling the remarkable and intimate stories of real people in our community through film, storytelling, prose and, of course, stunning music performed from The Monastery in Gorton by Camerata musicians and collaborators.
Each film tells a different story addressing universal themes of identity, belonging, loss and love. Each one is bound by the same clear goal – ‘to heal through music’ (Gábor Takács-Nagy, Music Director).
So far, we have raised £110,000 and have been blown away by the love and support of our loyal fans. However, we still have £140,000 to raise. Without individual donations, the rest of the series will not happen and our future is at risk.
We ask that you please consider making a donation to our urgent appeal to help us survive this pandemic and secure the future of live performance. Your donation will mean such a lot to our musicians and will give them hope at a time when life is very difficult. If you would like to speak to me, Paul Davies, about making a donation, I would be happy to tell you more.Email me at: PDavies@manchestercamerata.com
