माया Māyā (An Orchestral Exploration of Carnatic Music)

Wed 30 October 2024, 7:30pm,
Stoller Hall

Māyā is a brand new composition by Rushil Ranjan, commissioned by Manchester Camerata. Featuring Carnatic virtuosos Abi Sampa, Praveen Prathapan, Janan Sathiendran and Krishnaprasad KV,  it explores and blends the sound of  Western Classical Orchestra with Carnatic traditions.

Carnatic music is widely considered to be the most ancient and pure form of music from the Indian subcontinent. With roots in deeply spiritual and Vedic traditions, it incorporates mathematical, rhythmic complexity, and raga to beautifully illustrate tales from Hindu mythology.
