Over the past year, musicians from Manchester Camerata have been working with four Manchester primary schools in a project funed by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation which aims to embed songwriting across the curriculum.
Two class teachers from Webster, Claremont, St Margaret’s C of E and St Mary’s C of E Primary Schools have been working with Manchester Camerata to learn all about songwriting in the classroom… and what a lot of learning they’ve done! Over the course of the year, the group have created a new online resource filled with easy to follow musical activities which will be used in classes from September 2019. Written by teachers, for teachers, this new songwriting resources aims to help classes create their own original songs about different aspects of the curriculum.
In July, we invited all four schools to join us at the Royal Northern College of Music to give everyone the opportunity to perform their own songs alongside musicians from the orchestra. A true celebration of songwriting in the classroom! We’re looking forward to working with more teachers from each school in year two of the project.
