We are performing one of Schubert’s major chamber works, his Octet for wind and strings, at Kendal Town Hall!
Our principal players, led by violinist Caroline Pether, will perform this joyous and heart-rending piece. There are contrasting styles throughout the Octet, with delicate, lively dances, memorable melodies and moving emotional twists. This really is music born from Schubert’s innermost being. Renowned clarinettist Ferdinand Troyer commissioned the Octet in 1824, with a request for a work similar to Beethoven’s Septet in E-Flat Major.
