What can we say about our incredible Music Director, Gabor? A true inspiration to the players and a guiding light for how our orchestra sounds, Gábor’s ethos is to play with as much humanity as possible, believing that music is ‘spiritual medicine’. The results are electrifying.
At the helm of our organisation since 2010 Gábor was born in Hungary in 1956 and originally trained as a violinist fronting the world famous Takács Quartet. In 1992 he made his monumental move from playing the violin to conducting, a pivotal moment in his career following 17 years of leading the Quartet, a story which we explore in our Untold series below. In 2007, he became Music Director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Hungarian State Symphony and of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra.
Gábor has won countless awards and recorded some of the finest works – he is truly a living legend and a joy to watch conduct.
