Continuing our celebrated “Mozart, Made in Manchester” journey, this record features the incredible Martin Owen alongside the orchestra, with our Music Director Gábor Takács-Nagy at the helm. Regarded as one of Europe’s leading horn players, Martin has performed with the likes of the Berliner Philharmoniker, with The Times calling his playing ‘a luxury for the ears’.

Together, they tackle the brilliance of Mozart’s Four Horn Concertos and the Rondo, KV 371. Many of you will remember the energy of these pieces when we performed them at The Stoller Hall.

Last night at The University of Manchester’s Making a Difference award, our Music in Mind programme for people living with dementia and their carers was Highly Commended in the Outstanding benefit to society through research category.

Our longstanding partnership with The University of Manchester and, in particular, Professor John Keady, was celebrated for “transforming dementia care through a moments-based lens”

The programme has been shaped by his research on “moments” as a conceptual framework: creating the moment, being in the moment, ending the moment and reliving the moment. Recognising each moment as personally meaningful has informed session design and refined MIM’s music therapy techniques. The work has established Music Cafés in local communities, co-designed scalable sessions with care homes, trained dementia champions, and launched a commissioning toolkit embedding music-based interventions in health and care systems, reaching over 11,000 participants.

We now host the UK’s First Centre of Excellence for Music and Dementia, hosting free Music Cafés across all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester.

Our Music in Mind programme, including our dementia music cafés, creates meaningful moments through music for people living with dementia and their loved ones, bringing connection, creativity and joy into everyday life.

It’s great to be recognised for this work alongside other incredible nominees. As the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Music and Dementia, we’re proud to deliver sector-leading programmes, with our dementia music cafés reaching all 10 boroughs in GM, alongside over 12 years of research in partnership with The University of Manchester.

Well, that’s something that doesn’t happen every day.

Last week, we had the honour of performing for the Princess of Wales, alongside our Artistic Partner, Rushil Ranjan, and Aakash Odedra. Songs of the Bulbul is a deeply moving interpretation of an ancient Sufi story about a captured songbird, a bulbul, which sings an exquisite tune before perishing from despair. It combines music, dance and the poetry traditions of Sufism.

The performance was part of a visit from the Princess of Wales, celebrating the culture, community and heritage of the British Indian community in Leicester. In a time when the world often feels divided and fractured, it’s important to remember the universality of shared human connections through music and art.

Here at Camerata, we celebrate music from every culture and tradition, embracing the diverse voices that make up our community. We are committed to being as equitable and inclusive in all we do, creating a space where everyone feels valued, respected, and heard. It was a real honour taking part in the performance of Aakash’s incredible work.

That’s why we were delighted when The Benedetti Foundation reached out to ask if they could launch their new Spotlight Series by focusing on our Music in Mind work. Over the course of last week, the Benedetti Foundation have shared stories of our Music in Mind programme for people living with dementia and their carers, and the impact it makes.
