Fatal Distraction – A New Opera With Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service
Posted on January 26, 2016
Students from four Cheshire colleges are joining together with firefighters from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to create a new opera called Fatal Distraction. The creative music and drama project looks to tackle the issues surrounding young people and road traffic collisions.
The four groups from Warrington Collegiate, Riverside College, UCE Academy and South Cheshire College are currently working with a Camerata composer, dramatist and musicians to write the opera, which explore the causes and consequences of road traffic collisions involving young people. The piece will be informed by real life stories to explain the impact on passengers and drivers, passers-by, families and emergency service personnel that attend these incidents.
Members of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are also part of the workshops, to provide an insight into road collisions and how they are dealt with.
The final performance, which will incorporate multi-media, large scale props and firefighting equipment, will take place at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe on Thursday 25 February to an audience of fellow students, friends and family.
