Don Giovanni’s Mansfield composers
Posted on October 14, 2010
Young composers from Mansfield schools are turning to Mozart’s Don Giovanni for inspiration to create new works.
Don Giovanni is on the bill of Manchester Camerata’s concert in Mansfield on 17 October.
|The concert is a prime feature of Mansfield’s Palace Theatre’s Centenary Celebrations and sees Manchester Camerata joining forces with internationally renowned violinist, Tasmin Little, and the orchestra’s future Music Director, Gábor Takács-Nagy to celebrate the Palace Theatre’s 100th Birthday with a superb programme of music.
A performance by young musicians will take place during the concert that will showcase a piece of music that is a product of an educational programme especially commissioned for local pupils and funded by Orchestras Live.
Key Stage 3 students in Mansfield will be exploring concepts central to the KS3 National Curriculum for music. Using themes and motifs from the overture, the young people will work with a composer, and musicians from the orchestra to create their own composition, which will be performed in the Camerata concert alongside the Don Giovanni overture itself. All the participants will receive a free ticket to the concert.
